The Seed Processing Unit at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Latur, was established in January 2026 under the District Planning and Development Council (DPDC) and the Department of Agriculture, Government of Maharashtra, to strengthen quality seed production and processing in the region. The unit provides facilities for cleaning, grading, treating, and packaging of seeds to ensure the availability of high-quality seed material to farmers, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and seed producers. It supports the production of Foundation and certified quality seeds by improving seed purity, germination, and storage life. The unit also serves as a training and demonstration center for farmers and rural youth on scientific seed processing technologies, value addition and seed entrepreneurship, thereby contributing to enhanced crop productivity, increased farm income and sustainable agricultural development.
