Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Farmers Science centre), Latur was established on 20 May 2006 under the affiliation ICAR. The operational area of KVK was whole Latur district. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Latur is Model, Hi-tech KVK of India working for farming community for 17 years for the development of sustainable agriculture. The aim of Krishi Vigyan Kendra is to reduce the time lag between the technology transfer from research institutions to the farmers field for increasing production, productivity and income from the agriculture and allied sectors on a sustained basis.
The vision of the KVK is: To be the leading resource and knowledge centre of Agricultural technology for the upliftment of the farming community.
The Mission is: To deliver demand driven agricultural products and services by qualified professionals
Objectives
KVK is known for rendering its best services to the farmers of the districts. Also, this centre has been nominated as a technical training centre by various line departments to brush up their extension functionaries for technical knowledge.
Objectives:
- Conduct “On Farm Testing” for identifying technologies in terms of location specific sustainable land use systems.
- Organize front-line demonstrations on various crops and techniques to generate production data and feedback information.
- Organize training for the farmers to provide them theoretical and practical knowledge of improved agriculture technologies.
- Conduct In-service trainings are also conducted for extension functionaries.
Mandate
The mandate of KVK is Technology Assessment and Demonstration for its Application and Capacity Development.
To implement the mandate effectively, the following activities are envisaged for each KVK
- On-farm testing to assess the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems.
- Frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of technologies on the farmers’ fields.
- Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural technologies.
- To work as Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving the agricultural economy of the district.
- Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest to farmers.
